THE SHOW

The outdoor television series known as The Best of the West has been on air since 2003 and the focus of the program is long range hunting big game in the Rocky Mountains.  The production crew at Best of the West Productions strive to present an exciting cinematic version that immerses the viewer in the mountainous outdoor experience.  Being all too aware that hunters want to see big game hit the ground, it's also been the goal to bring the entire "package" of the journey, knowing full well that even an unsuccessful hunt is never a waste of time.  The times spent with family and friends in the outdoors is a rejuvenating experience to the very depths of the soul.

To the snowcapped mountains of British Columbia we follow pro staff member Joe Cunningham and friend of the show John Shafter in pursuit of trophy mountain goats. The extreme landscape and harse weather conditions challenge both body and mind on this seven day hunt. Turrets will turn and goats will roll on this incredible high mountain adventure!

2017-13 LIVING ON THE EDGE

In this episode, the conclusion of John Fear's quest for his Wyoming bighorn ram. Plus we head to northern Manitoba with Joe Cunningham and friend John McCall for a black bear hunt. We also join Ray Lozier back in Wyoming on a successful bighorn ram draw after 22 years and no less of an adventure with outfitter Josh Martoglio.

2017-12 THOUSAND MILE DIVIDE

Building extremely accurate rifle systems with state-of-the-art Huskemaw Optics with patented Wind Hold technology is something we just do at Best of the West. We'll take a look behind the scenes at our gun building process and then we'll join Shane Gerhardt on a pronghorn hunt and Jim Sessions on a bighorn sheep hunt in Wyoming.

2017-11 OUT OF SIGHT

Since grizzly bears were protected by the Endangered Species Act in 1975, they have made a remarkable recovery. States are now getting their management plans ready for the delisting. We'll tag along with John Porter in Idaho as he takes his 12-year old nephew, Justin. on his first black bear hunt. We also join Joe Cunningham in Montana on his first black bear hunt.

2017-10 BEAR MANAGEMENT

Patrick Romero is lucky enough to draw an Arizona early bull elk rifle tag on his second attempt. His father, Pat, attributes his luck to his birth weight of 7 lbs. 11 oz, but this season is requiring more than just luck. After four days of hard work and not much activity, Pat gets a call from work that cuts the season down to one more day. Little did Albert Henderson know that his general elk tag in northwest Wyoming would yield a world record crossbow title.

2017-09 SEVEN ELEVEN

Dropped off in the backcountry of British Columbia with a pocket full of shells and three tags to fill, Bryan Martin and Andrew Bromley take aim at Trophy Stone Sheep and Mountain goat on their self guided backpacking adventure.

2017-08 A GUIDE TO ROLLING STONES

Jim Sessions and his wife, Lynn, are in southwest Wyoming and they're both holding pronghorn and Shiras moose tags, but this is no walk in the park.. The moose population is down and it's taking hard work to find that special bull. Also on this episode, Polestar Outdoors takes another young man out for his first Muley buck.

2017-07 THE PREDATOR TOLL

The esteemed MacMillan River Adventures outfits John Porter on his coveted stone sheep hunt in the Yukon Territory. His horseback adventure takes him into some rugged country of northwest Canada. Once he fills his sheep tag, John is off to fill another tag.

2017-06 YUKON TIMES TWO

Best of the West is revolutionizing long range shooting, again. Their brand new muzzleloader and slug gun are reaching ranges never seen before and in this episode Kevin Norman and Daryl Peterson head to Tennessee to show them off.

2017-05 TENNESSEE MASSACRE

Joel Proffit takes his brother, Micah, along with friends Dave Hollingshead and Austin Thompson into the backcountry of Wyoming for an elk hunt. First time elk hunters and first time backcountry adventurers, Micah and Austin are willing to test themselves against the weather, terrain, stock and the elusive bull elks. With the weather conditions changing daily, this is an epic hunt.

2017-04 DOUBLE DOUBLE

2017-03 YUKON COURAGE

Nate and Julie Vance of Wyoming Outdoor Recreations dedicate there outfitting business to hunters with disabilities. Long time friend, Don Ware, had a back injury and a surgery that went bad has left him with a permanent disability. Don is an accomplished muzzleloader hunter and still loves to hunt. Nate and Julie make what they believe his final pronghorn hunt as special as they can.

2017-02 MIRACLE MILE

Field Host Latt Durrrance is headed to Stephan Lake Lodge and the magnificent landscape of Alaska in springtime. He is after a black bear and a grizzly bear with the Best of the West Mountain Hunter, the lightweight long range rifle with Huskemaw Optics scope. This epic hunt has all the twists and turns of a mystery novel.

JIM SESSIONS

Jim was born and raised in Wyoming. He has hunted extensively in most western states, Canada, and Alaska. His filming, hunting, and shooting skills remain great assets to both BOTW and Huskemaw Optics.

JOHN PORTER

John was born in 1965 in Cody, Wyoming. His family had generations of outfitters and competitive shooters. In 30 plus years of guiding and outfitting in Alaska and Wyoming he has personally guided over 700 trophy big game hunts.

LATT DURRANCE

Latt is a Florida native. He got his start in the outdoor world working as a first mate with Trophy Fishing Marlin Boats in the Caribbean. Since then Latt has guided hunts over a quarter of the western hemisphere.

JOE CUNNINGHAM

Joe previously worked for the St. Louis Cardinals for 22 years before getting his foot into hunting and fishing. He now has been with The Best of the West for 5 years and loves being a field host and going to trade shows.

DAN ADLER

Dan Adler is the owner of Diamond Outfitters of Arizona and a Veteran United States Air Force Captain. Dan is also a professional speaker and public figure in the hunting industry and on the topic of the Second Amendment. In his spare time he guides hunts for giant elk, world record Coues deer, mule deer, antelope, mountain lion, javelina and black bear.

JOHN IBBOTSON

John was born and raised in Connecticut. where he still reside. He is an avid hunter and fisherman all his life and operated a hunting guide service for over thirty years. He was director at Colts Mfg. for 19 years and now COO, board member and pro staff at Best of the West.
