Leica 1200 CRF or Zeiss Victory
Leica 1200 CRF or Zeiss Victory

I am stuck between a rock and a hard spot. I have the chance between these two range finders for the same price. I have used the Leica and was very impressed! The size was nice and small but I didn't every try and range anything over 600 yards so I am not sure how it will perform at greater yardages. I also have not used the Zeiss and I noticed that it is a little larger than the Leica which makes me think that it might be friendlier at longer ranges(easier to support). Any suggestions or reviews on these would help me greatly!

I have the older model Leica 1200 and I've range trees out to 1222yds. I've never had a chance to test a Zeiss.

Do both of them have the ability to be connected to a tri-pod?

Out of curiosity, I sent Leica an email asking if it is treaded for a tripod. I plan to "jerry rig" my older leica rangefinder with a plate with felcro or something. Anyone have any suggestions??

I checked out the swarovski at cabelas and it can be used on a tripod and the Leica cannot. I presently own a Leica 1200CRF and was trying to decide if I had made a mistake in buying it instead of the swarovski, but the leica is lighter, smaller and mine ranges pretty good. So I am going to keep it. The main thing I didn't like about the swarovski is how dim the readout is. The guy at cabelas said that one of the workers in the optics department had owned a swarovski and didn't like it and sold it and bought a leica. Thats what I know and I'm sticking too it.

I have the Leica 1200crf and love it. When someone figures out a tripod mount post it with pictures as there are many that would be interested.

Harvey52,
I have an idea on how to attach the CRF, but I can't even draw a stick figure much less a diagram to hold the rangefinder. I'll try to get my neighbor to draw it on his computer and attach to a post. I know he's busy so it may take a week just depends on how much snow we get.

After doing a little research I have found out that neither on has the capability/attachment for a tripod. I would think that the Zeiss would be easier to attach to a tripod due to the way it is made and the flat(horizontal)design, where as the Leica is made in a (vertical) upright design thus giving you a smaller base to attach to a tripod.

If you haven't bought yet, you owe it to yourself to try the Nikon 1200. Tripod ready and it WORKS GREAT!

I will look at the Nikon but the problem is I can test both of the Zeiss and the Leica out before I buy. The Nikon I can't. I just sold an older Nikon and was not real happy with it's performance at distances greater than 200 yards. It was an 800 yard model and I know I should have been getting at least 400 yards constantly. All that aside I will give it a shot as well as the Leupold 1500 yard model. Thanks for the advise.
